Researching Your Family or Your House
The files of the Essex Historical Society contain background information on genealogy, house histories, cemetery records, family papers, people files, photographs, postcards, letters, diaries and many other one-of-a-kind resources that can be helpful in information-gathering. Our house history file contains background information from Town Historian, Don Malcarne's research as well as photographs and family information. In addition, our reference files are a compilation of news clippings and sundry sources gathered over the years from local newspapers and magazines on subjects pertaining to Essex history. Our surveys, directories, maps and indices may contain the information you are looking for. We may also have printed biographies, genealogies, census records and working papers to help you in your detective work.
The Archival Angels, volunteers who have a variety of interests and accumulated knowledge, are happy to help you in your research, but request that you give advance notice and pertinent background information about your search so they can be prepared to help.
To speak with a volunteer or to make an appointment, leave a message on the answering machine at Hills Academy (860-767-0861).
