EHS Preservation Award

Chad Floyd and Jim Childress of Centerbrook Architects receive EHS’s 2015 Preservation Award on behalf of their firm.

Essex Historical Society presents its Preservation Award to deserving restoration projects that exhibit notable sensitivity in historic preservation and structural research.  Recent winners have included: Centerbrook Architects in 2015; Essex Firehouse #1 on Prospect Street in 2014; Ivoryton Playhouse in 2013; Centerbrook Meeting House in 2012; and the Ivoryton Library in 2011.   These buildings were restored, bringing back the integrity of the historical periods in which they were constructed.

Qualifications for the award:

-The building may be commercial or residential

-The building must have been built in 1940 or earlier

-The historic character of the original structure must have been preserved and any restoration done in keeping with the original building and period

Formerly an annual award, EHS’s Preservation Award will now be presented on a situational basis for truly outstanding restoration work.  Please let us know if there is a restoration project in your neighborhood that deserves our consideration.
