Bicentennial of British Raid on Essex Celebration Continues!
Artifact Display at Essex Library
Check out the display cases at the Essex Library! The exhibit includes artifacts such as actual musket balls and a piece of the Osage. There will be a reception for the exhibit on Saturday, May 3 at noon at the Essex Library.
Commemoration Day Parade
Every year in May, Essex holds their annual parade to remember the largest maritime loss of the War of 1812?the British raiding the town and burning 27 ships. The Commemoration Day Parade was formerly known as the "Burning of the Ships Parade" (and to some, the "Losers Parade"). This year, there will be many fun and exciting activities as well as the parade, including an "1812 Tea" and tours of Pratt House from 10:00 am?3:00 pm. For the full schedule of events, check out the British Raid on Essex website or the Connecticut River Museumwebsite.
