Essex Historical Society and Essex Meadows present History Hour. This new program will feature a speaker, author, presenter, or musician once a month through 2026.

November’s speaker is Chris Newell. Chris Newell will be reading from and answering questions about his newest non-fiction children's book If You Lived During the American Revolution published by Scholastic in February of this year. As a Passamaquoddy historian, Chris has a unique perspective on this important time in our country's history and carefully crafted the book to tell the story of the Revolution, as well as the stories of populations often left out of the narrative. We invite you to come and listen, ask questions, and share in Chris's educational work for children.

History hour is FREE and open to the public. We recommend arriving to Hamilton Hall by 9:50 am. as seating is available first-come, first-served. No need to register for this event. In the unlikely event that the program changes or needs to be canceled, please check EHS social media and website.

Chris Newell is founding director of the Native American Cultural Program for the University of Connecticut and co-founder/director of education for Akomawt Educational Initiative; a majority Native-owned educational consultancy based in Connecticut.  He is a multi-award-winning museum professional born and raised in Motahkmikuhk (Indian Township, ME), an author, performer, and a proud citizen of the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township.
